KANDA POHA, Recipe Of How To Make Onion Poha

A step by step recipe of kanda poha –a tangy and spicy recipe of beaten rice along with onions and peanuts. The sour taste of this recipe is because of the lemon used in it.

Kanda poha is basically an Maharashtrian dish, which is very famous dish in India. In south India this recipe is known as avalaggi Chitrana. And in Rajasthan we used to make batata poha, which is a potato based recipe.

But kanda poha is my all time favorite. Because this is the simplest recipe of poha which I know.

Here I have used just the simple ingredients like onions, peanuts, green chilies and lemon.

This recipe is very similar to the lemon rice recipe. I have also shared a recipe of aloo chana poha.

Ingredients for kanda poha –

  1. Beaten rice (poha/chivada) -2 cups
  2. Chopped onions -1 cup
  3. Green chilies -1 tbsp
  4. Peanuts -2 tbsp
  5. Curry leaves -7-8
  6. Turmeric powder -1 tsp
  7. Red chili powder -1 tsp
  8. Lemon juice -1 tbsp
  9. Black mustard seeds -1 tsp
  10. Oil -1 tbsp
  11. Salt to taste

How to make kanda poha recipe –

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves in it.
  3. When the mustard seeds are spluttered add peanuts into it.
  4. Fry the peanuts and then add green chilies and onions into the pan.
  5. Sauté the onion till translucent.
  6. In the mean while rinse the poha (beaten rice) with water. At least 2-3 times.
  7. Now add salt to it.
  8. Also add lemon juice into it.
  9. Mix well and keep aside.
  10. Now to the onions add turmeric powder and pinch of salt.
  11. Mix well and cook for one minute.
  12. Now add the poha into it.
  13. Add 1 tsp of red chili powder.
  14. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  15. Garnish it with chopped coriander and serve hot.

Step by step recipe with pictures –
