CLUB SANDWICH, recipe of how to make club sandwich at home

Step by step recipe of club sandwich –easy and tasty veg club sandwich recipe. It has 3 to 4 layers in it and each layer is filled with a new and refreshing taste.

What is a club sandwich? –

I know many of us don’t know about it. So as per the Wikipedia “a club sandwich also known as clubhouse sandwich, is a sandwich of occasionally toasted bread, sliced cooked poultry, fried bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. It is often cut into quarters or halves.

But as I am vegetarian and my blog is about vegan food so I made this sandwich in vegan form.

Here I have used bell peppers which are red, yellow and green. And also used onions, tomato, cucumber, cheese, green chutney, and last but not the least besan chila.

These sandwich have 3 layers of fillings, each are different with other.

The first layer is made up of cucumber, tomato and onion slices. Second with chopped bell peppers, cucumber and cheese in it. The third layer contains besan chila made with gram flour, finally chopped onions, tomato, green chilies and coriander.

I used green chutney as a sandwich spread but you can also add mayonnaise or sandwich spread on it. You may also change some of fillings and can add your favorite or what veggies you like in your sandwich like carrots or cabbage or any other vegetables or omelets if you eat egg, anything you want and create your own club sandwich. 

These sandwiches can be made in a house party or for your kid’s party. They are tasty and easy to make.

I saw this recipe on a food site named as vegrecipesofindia I am a big fan of Dassana mam. She is a great chef.

She used carrots and cabbage also but I skip them and used bell peppers in my filling.

My other sandwich recipes are –bread bhaji sandwich, bread pizza sandwich.

Ingredients for club sandwich –

  1. Bread slices -8-12
  2. Butter -2 tbsp or as required

For green chutney –

  1. Fresh coriander -1 cup
  2. Tomato -1
  3. Green chilies -2
  4. Curd -2 tbsp
  5. Salt -1 tsp

For besan chila –

  1. Gram flour -1 cup
  2. Finely chopped onions -2 tbsp
  3. Chopped tomatoes -2 tbsp
  4. Green chilies -1 tsp
  5. Chopped coriander -1 tbsp
  6. Red chili powder -1 tsp
  7. Salt to taste

For cheese mixture –

  1. Finely chopped red bell pepper -1/4 cup
  2. Finely chopped yellow bell pepper -1/4 cup
  3. Capsicum -2 tbsp
  4. Finely chopped cucumber -1 tbsp
  5. Grated cheese -1/2 cup
  6. Black pepper powder -2 tsp
  7. Chaat masala -1 tsp or as per your taste
  8. Salt to taste

Other ingredients –

  1. Cucumber slices -8-10
  2. Tomato slices -8-10
  3. Onion slices -8-10
  4. Salt to taste

How to make club sandwich? –

Preparing chutney –

  1. Take all the ingredients in a grinding jar.
  2. Grind it until a smooth paste.

Preparing cheese mixture –

  1. Take all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix to make a mixture of it.

Preparing besan chila –

  1. Take the besan in a mixing bowl and add all the ingredients in it.
  2. Add water little by little and make a not so thick paste.
  3. Now heat a tawa and pour a ladle of this mixture.
  4. Cook it nicely and remove from the pan.

Prepare the salad –

  1. Mix all the slices such as cucumber, onions and tomatoes.
  2. Season it with salt and mix and keep aside.

Preparing the club sandwiches –

  1. Heat butter on a tawa.
  2. Put 4 slices of bread on it.
  3. By applying the butter on the bread make a toast of it.
  4. Now remove the breads and spread the green chutney on them.
  5. Now on one piece of bread put the slices of onion, cucumber and tomatoes.
  6. Now cover it with other bread.
  7. Apply some butter on it.
  8. Now spread the cheese mixture on it.
  9. Cover it again with third bread and apply some butter.
  10. Now put the chila as the third layer of your club sandwich.
  11. Cover it with the last piece of bread.
  12. Cut the sandwich in cubes and serve with sauce or chutney.

Step by step recipe of club sandwich with pictures –

Preparing chutney –

Take all the ingredients in a grinding jar.

Grind it until a smooth paste. And keep aside.

Preparing cheese mixture –

Take the chopped ingredients in a mixing bowl or plate such as –chopped red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, cucumber and capsicum.

Add the grated cheese in it.

Add the chat masala, black pepper powder and salt to it.

Mix well and keep aside.

Preparing besan chila –

Take the besan in a mixing bowl.

Add the chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies and chopped coriander in it.

Also add red chili powder and salt to it.

Add water little by little and make a not so thick paste.

Now heat a tawa

And pour a ladle of this mixture and spread a little.

Now put some oil over it.

You can see the chila is drying from upper side.

When it is completely dry from above then flip it.

Cook for a minute and flip again.

Cook it nicely and remove from the pan.

Prepare the salad –

Mix all the slices such as cucumber, onions and tomatoes. Season it with salt and mix and keep aside.

Preparing the club sandwiches –

Heat butter on a tawa.

Put 4 slices of bread on it. Apply the butter on the upper side too.

Flip and cook for few seconds.

Cook to give a nice color and crisp.

Now remove the breads and spread the green chutney on them.

Now on one piece of bread put the slices of onion, cucumber and tomatoes.

Now cover it with other bread.

Apply some butter on it.

Now spread the cheese mixture on it.

Cover it again with third bread.

and apply some butter.

Now put the chila as the third layer of your club sandwich.

Cover it with the last piece of bread.

Cut the sandwich in cubes with a knife. you may also cut it in a triangle.

You can see how beautiful it is. Such a nice color.

Now serve this club sandwich with tomato ketchup or chutney or chai.
