Main ingredients –rawa and curd

Step by step recipe of rawa vada – deep fried, crispy and floppy vada prepared with rawa (semolina). The dough is prepared with the help of curd and also used onions, green chilies and curry leaves.

This recipe is very easy and quick to prepare. And goes very well with coconut chutney or peanut chutney.

These rawa vadas can be an evening snack for you and your family, specially kids will love them.

While making the vada mixture, depending on the quality of rawa, you will need to add the required amount of curd. If there is less moisture in the vada mixture, the vadas turn hard. And do not fry too much as then they become too crispy and hard.

Ingredients for rava vada or sooji vada –

  1. Semolina -1 cup
  2. Chopped onions -1/2 cup
  3. Green chilies -1 or 2
  4. Chopped curry leaves -1 tbsp
  5. Cumin seeds(jeera) -1/2tsp
  6. Crushed black pepper -1/2 tsp
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Sour curd -1/2 cup or as required
  9. Baking soda -1/4 tsp
  10. Oil as required for deep frying

How to make rawa vada –

  1. In a mixing bowl take 1 cup of fine rawa.
  2. Then add chopped onions, green chilies, curry leaves to it.
  3. Add cumin seeds and crushed black pepper to it.
  4. Now add salt and baking soda to it.
  5. Also add curd to it, as required to you.
  6. Mix well and knead it.
  7. Now leave it to set the rawa mixture for 20-25 minutes.
  8. Now apply some oil on your palm or on a plastic cover to make the vadas.
  9. Take a small portion of rawa mixture and roll it.
  10. Press it to flatten the vada, now make depression in the center.
  11. Heat enough oil to deep fry in a kadai.
  12. Add the vadas one by one in the oil.
  13. When one side is golden brown flip it to the other.
  14. Cook them on medium flame.
  15. Cook until they are crispy and golden.
  16. Remove from the oil on a kitchen towel or newspaper.
  17. Serve hot with peanut chutney/coconut chutney/mint chutney/green chutney.

In a mixing bowl take 1 cup of fine rawa.

Then add chopped onions, green chilies, curry leaves to it.

Add cumin seeds and crushed black pepper to it.

Now add salt and baking soda to it.

Also add curd to it, as required to you.

Mix well all the ingredients.

And knead it.

Now leave it to set the rawa mixture for 20-25 minutes.if the mixture is too dry then add some water to make it smooth.

Knead again to make the mixture smooth.

Now apply some oil on your palm or on a plastic cover to make the vadas. Take a small portion of rawa mixture and roll it.

Press it to flatten the vada, now make depression in the center.

Heat enough oil to deep fry in a kadai.

Add the vadas one by one in the oil.

Add as per the capacity of your kadai.

When one side is golden brown flip it to the other. Cook them on medium flame.

Cook until they are crispy and golden.

Remove from the oil on a kitchen towel or newspaper.

Serve hot with peanut chutney/coconut chutney/mint chutney/green chutney.
