Mix daal fry recipe –it’s a simple daal fry recipe where we are using 3 kinds of split lentils, which are Bengal gram lentils(chana daal), split and husked green gram lentils(dhuli moong daal) and green gram split lentils(chilke wali moong daal).
These are the three main ingredients of it but if you want to enhance it you can also use other lentils with it as per your choice. At my home I use only these three. My father used to call it as PANCH MELA DAAL, he just love this daal fry and used to have it with bengan ka bharta and garam garam fulka.
Here is the recipe of my mix daal fry made with chana daal, husked moong daal and skinned moong daal as the key ingredients

Ingredients for mix daal fry

  1. Chana daal(Bengal gram) -1/2 cup
  2. Dhuli moong daal -1/2 cup
  3. Chilke wali moong daal -1/2 cup
  4. Chopped onion -1 cup
  5. Chopped tomato 1 cup
  6. Finely chopped green chilies -2 tbsp
  7. Finely chopped garlic -1 tbsp
  8. Finely chopped ginger -1/2 tbsp
  9. Red chili powder -1 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  11. Coriander powder -1 tsp
  12. Cumin seeds -1/2 tsp
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Water -4 cups
  15. Oil -2 tbsp
  16. Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing.

Method for preparing mix daal fry

  1. Mix all the lentils and rinse them twice.
  2. Now take a pressure cooker and put the mixed lentils in it. Add turmeric powder and salt in it with 4 cups of water.
  3. Now put the lid on cooker and pressure cook for about 4 whistles.
  4. Now switch off the flame and keep it aside.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai or pan and temper the cumin seeds.
  6. Now add green chili, garlic and ginger and sauté them.
  7. Now add chopped onion and sauté it until they become transparent.
  8. Now add chopped tomato into it and all the other spices now cook it until the oil comes up.
  9. Now add the boiled daal in the pan and mix it well, cook it for another 2 minutes.
  10. Now switch off the flame garnish with the coriander leaves and serve hot with chapatti or plane rice and with fresh cucumber and onion salad.

Notes-

  1. You can substitute the lentils with many more other lentils as per your choice.
  2. You can also add fresh cream and lemon juice in it.

Step by step mix daal fry recipe with pics –

  1. Boil the lentils with turmeric powder, salt and 4 cups of water in a pressure cooker for about 4 whistles.
