MOOMOS, HOW TO MAKE MOOMOS RECIPE

A step by step recipe of moomos –steamed dumpling made with all purpose flour and stuffed with mix vegetables.

Moomos is a Chinese recipe which is a steamed recipe. Frankly speaking I don’t like moomos but I only try it because my friends requested me to post this recipe too.

I only like the fried recipes made with maida/all purpose flour. So here also after cooking these dumplings in a steamer I give them a shot to fry.

This is a quite time consuming recipe and you have to be careful about the ends of the dumplings to join. Use water for that.

Ingredients for moomos –

  1. All purpose flour/maida -2 cups
  2. Finely chopped mix vegetables(cabbage, carrots and spring onion) -2 cups
  3. Chopped onion -2 tbsp
  4. Chopped garlic -1 tbsp
  5. Red chili powder -1 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  7. Coriander powder -1 tsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Oil as required
  10. Black pepper powder -1/2 tsp

Ingredients for garlic chutney –

  1. Garlic cloves -9-10
  2. Fresh red chilies -3-4
  3. Lemon -1/4
  4. Salt to taste

Method to prepare garlic chutney –

  1. Take all the ingredients together for garlic chutney.
  2. Chop the red chilies and place all the ingredients in a blender.
  3. Blend them to make chutney. And it’s ready to use.

Method to prepare moomos –

  1. Take the all purpose flour in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add salt and 2 tbsp oil in it.
  3. Now add warm water to knead the dough.
  4. Knead a smooth and firm dough of it. And keep aside.
  5. Now wash properly all the vegetables.
  6. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.
  7. Now add chopped garlic into it and sauté.
  8. Now add chopped onions and sauté.
  9. Now add the mix vegetables in it.
  10. Sauté them 4-5 minutes.
  11. Now add all the powdered spices into it (red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, black pepper powder and salt).
  12. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes. Switch off the flame and let it to be cool.
  13. Now make a small ball of maida dough.
  14. Make a peda with it.
  15. Now roll it like a puri.
  16. Now put 1 spoon full of vegetable masala on it.
  17. Now apply some water with your finger tip on the sides of this puri.
  18. Now most dangerous part. Make the plats from the sides of this puri.
  19. Make it in a modak like shape. And join from the ends.
  20. Now place them in a steamer. I have used the idli maker.
  21. It will take around 10-15 minutes to steam.
  22. Now heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.
  23. And place all the moomos in it.
  24. Sauté for 4-5 minutes.
  25. Serve these hot moomos with red garlic chutney.

    There is another method to make the moomos. Make it in gujhiya shape.

    Now with the help of water join the ends of it too.

    Make all your moomos in these two ways.

    Now place them in a steamer. I have used the idli maker.

    Now heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.

    And place all the moomos in it.

    Sauté for 4-5 minutes.

    Serve these hot moomos with red garlic chutney.
