MISSI ROTI, RECIPE OF HOW TO MAKE GRAM FLOUR ROTI - Main Course - Roti and Parantha - Foodfied

A step by step recipe of missi roti –a flatbread recipe of bengal gram flour, wheat flour with some Indian spices.

Missi roti is a cuisine of two states such as Rajasthan and Punjab. If we add carom seeds/ajwain to this missi roti, it becomes a cuisine of Rajasthan and we add kasuri methi or we don’t add both then it is a cuisine of Punjab.

It goes very well with garlic chutney and raita or plain curd.

I have actually preparaed it in roti form not in the thepla or parantha form. So I didn’t use onions or green chili or any other things in it.

Soon I will post the recipe of missi methi thepla or missi parantha with onion and green chilies.

Ingredients for missi roti –

  1. Wheat flour -1 and ½ cup
  2. Bengal gram flour -2 cups
  3. Red chili powder -1 tsp
  4. Cumin seeds -1 tsp
  5. Carom seeds/ajwain -1/2 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  7. Oil -1 tbsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Ghee for topping

How to make missi roti –

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a mixing bowl (except ghee).
  2. Knead it with water.
  3. Make small peda and roll it with rolling pin.
  4. Place it on hot tawa and cook from both the sides.
  5. Now place it on the bare flame and cook until golden brown.
  6. Top it with ghee and serve hot with garlic chutney and curd.

Step by step recipe with pictures –

Take all the ingredients in a mixing bowl such as, gram flour, wheat flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, carom seeds and salt.

Mix well.

Also add 1 tbsp of oil in it.

Mix well all the ingredients.

Knead it with water to make a soft dough. And rest it for 10 minutes.

Knead again to make it smooth.

Now take a small portion of the dough and make a peda of it.

Dust some dry flour on it.

Roll it with a rolling pin.

Place it on a hot tawa.

Flip it and cook for 2 minutes.

It will look something like this.

Now take the roti on bare flame.

Cook by flipping it.

Cook for a nice color and crisp. This will look something like this.

Now take out from the flame.

And apply some butter/ghee on it.

Serve hot missi roti with curd and achar/garlic chutney.
