Tirangi idli recipe –rava idli cooked in three different taste and color.

This is my tri color rava idli which I have made especially for the purpose of independence. Almost we all know how to make rava idli, since south Indian food has became so popular in India now a days. So in these idlis I have used 2 types of pastes to give the color of my rava idli.

A).one is green paste which I have made with fresh green coriander and green chilies, and

B). second is red paste which I have made with fresh red chili and tomato.

Here is my step by step recipe with pictures –

Ingredients for tirangi idli/tri color idli –

  1. Rava/suji/semolina -3 cups
  2. Curd or butter milk -5 cups
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Baking soda -1 tbsp
  5. Eno salt -1 pouch or 1 tbsp
  6. Fresh coriander(chopped) -1/2 cup
  7. Green chilies -2
  8. Tomato -4
  9. Fresh red chili -1
  10. Oil -2 tbsp
  11. Black mustard seeds -1 tsp
  12. Curry leaves -7-8

Method to prepare tirangi idli –

  1. Mix rava, curd, salt and baking soda in a large bowl and allow it to rest for 4-5 hrs.
  2. Now after 4-5 hrs, heat oil in a pan and temper it with black mustard and curry leaves and add this mixture to the rava batter.
  3. Now add the eno salt in the rava batter and mix well.
  4. Now make the green and red paste. Green paste by grinding coriander and green chilies and red paste by tomato and red chili.
  5. Now divide the rava batter in three parts (not necessary that you divide them in equal parts).
  6. Mix red paste to the one part and green to the other and leave one as white.
  7. Now Greece the idli maker with oil and fill the three color batter in that one by one.
  8. Now cook it in steam for about 20-25 minutes.
  9. Serve hot these idlies with sambhar and coconut chutney.

Notes –

  1. You can use spinach as well for green color to make it healthy.
  2. And for red color carrots you can use its all depends on your taste and preference.
