A step by step recipe of Rajma aloo –a simple and delicious recipe made with rajma/kidney beans and potato.

This recipe is healthy and nutritious as it contains kidney beans and potato. This curry goes very well with plane rice or chapatti.

Ingredients for rajma aloo –

  1. Potato -7-8
  2. Soaked rajma/kidney beans -1 cup
  3. Oil -3 tbsp
  4. Ginger-garlic-green chili paste -3 tbsp
  5. Chopped tomatoes -1 cup
  6. Chopped onion -1 cup
  7. Red chili powder -1 tbsp
  8. Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  9. Garam masala -1 tsp
  10. Coriander powder -1 tbsp
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Malai -2 tbsp
  13. Chopped coriander for garnishing

Ingredients to temper –

  1. Cumin seeds -1 tsp
  2. Bay leaf/tej patta -3-4

Method to prepare rajma aloo –

  1. Peel the potato and take the soaked rajma and potato in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add ½ tsp of turmeric powder and salt into it.
  3. Also add 2 cups of water and pressure cook it for about 5-6 whistle.
  4. Now open the lid of pressure cooker.
  5. Chop the potato in 4. And keep aside. (if you will chop them at first then the potato will overcook as compare to rajma).
  6. Heat oil in a pan and temper it with cumin and tej patta for half minute.
  7. Now add chopped onions and sauté for 2 minutes.
  8. Now add ginger-garlic-green chili paste and sauté it.
  9. Cook until the onions are translucent.
  10. Now add tomato.
  11. Cook it until the tomatoes are quit soft
  12. Now add all the powdered spices and salt in it and cook for 2-3 minute on low flame so that the spices cooked very well.
  13. Now add the boiled potato and kidney beans to it with its water as well and mix well.
  14. Cook it for 3-4 boils and make a thick curry.
  15. Now add malai into it.
  16. Mix it and switch off the flame.
  17. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with plane rice or chapatti.

Step by step recipe of rajma aloo –

Peel the potato and take the soaked rajma and potato in a pressure cooker.

Add ½ tsp of turmeric powder and salt into it. Also add 2 cups of water and pressure cook it for about 5-6 whistle.

Now open the lid of pressure cooker. Chop the potato in 4. And keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan.

Temper it with cumin and tej patta for half minute.

Now add chopped onions and sauté for 2 minutes.

Now add ginger-garlic-green chili paste and sauté it.

Cook it until the tomatoes are quit soft.

Now add all the powdered spices and salt in it.

 Cook for 2-3 minute on low flame so that the spices cooked very well.

Now add malai into it. Mix it and switch off the flame.

Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with plane rice or chapatti.
