RAVA UTTAPAM, HOW TO MAKE RAVA UTTAPAM RECIPE

A step by step recipe of rava uttapam –rava uttapm is a simple pancake prepared with rava/suji/semolina, curd with a toping of onion, tomato and green chilies.

Uttapam is basically a South Indian dish prepared with a batter of rice and urad dal. And have some toppings of onion, tomato and green chilies.

Here I am using semolina to make my uttapam quickly. So this is an easy and quick recipe to make because here u doesn’t have to wait for overnight for the fermentation.

Just mix the rava/suji/semolina with butter milk or curd, salt and some baking soda/eno fruit salt. And your batter is ready to make the utapam. Make floppy uttapam with some toppings of onion, tomatoes and green chilies.

Uttapam is basically served with coconut chutney and sambhar in South but you can have it with sauce or green chutney. Or even kids will not wait for any chutney with it. I am sure they will have it without any dip.

Ingredients for rava uttapam –

  1. Semolina/rava/suji -2 cups
  2. Curd/butter milk/chas -2 and ½ cup
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Chopped onion -1 large
  5. Chopped tomatoes -1 large
  6. Chopped green chilies -2 tbsp
  7. Chopped coriander -2 tbsp
  8. Black mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  9. Eno fruit salt -1 tsp
  10. Oil as required

Method to prepare rava uttapam –

  1. Take the semolina in a mixing bowl.
  2. Beat the curd to make it smooth.
  3. Mix the curd in semolina.
  4. Also add some salt and mix.
  5. Now leave the batter to rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Now add some eno fruit salt and mix.
  7. Now heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan.
  8. And temper it with black mustard seeds.
  9. Add this on the semolina mixture.
  10. And mix it.
  11. Now take the chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies and coriander in a bowl.
  12. Add some salt to it.
  13. And mix it.
  14. Now heat a non-stick tawa to make the uttapam. Place 3-4 tbsp of batter on it.
  15. Spread it with a spoon in the round shape.
  16. It should be quite thick.
  17. Now spread the toppings on it.
  18. Apply some oil all over it(about 1 tsp).
  19. Now flip it.
  20. And press it with a spatula so that the toppings stick with it.
  21. Now flip again and cook it for 2 minutes.
  22. Serve it with coconut chutney/green chutney/sauce.
