A step by step recipe of rava set dosa –a floppy dosa made with rava/suji/semolina with a toping of grated carrots and coriander leaves.

Rava set dosa, one of my favorite varieties in dosa. They are not as crispy as the original dosa. But quite floppy in middle part and crispy from the sides.

This set dosa is originally served with a curry (veg paliya) and coconut chutney. We love it with green chutney/chai/sauce.

When I was in Bangalore, we used to order it from a hotel nearby to my place. They provide a set of 3 small dosas with veg paliya and coconut curry. And me and my siblings used to enjoy it by snatching from each other.

Now when go on the flash back and memorize all these sweet memories, a smile come on my face. And also feel sad that I am not with them now. (I am with my in-laws now).

Set dosa which I have cooked is a rava set dosa, where rava is mixed with butter milk, salt and a pinch of eno fruit salt.

My other recipes of suji are –suji ke laddoo, suji ka sheera, rava uttapam, rava idli, tirangi idli, chawal suji ka chilla, rava upma.

Ingredients for rava set dosa –

  1. Semolina/rava/suji -2 cups
  2. Curd/butter milk/chas -2 and ½ cup
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Grated carrots -2 tbsp
  5. Chopped coriander -2 tbsp
  6. Black mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  7. Eno fruit salt -1 tsp
  8. Oil as required

Method to prepare rava set dosa –

  1. Take the semolina in a mixing bowl.
  2. Beat the curd to make it smooth.
  3. Mix the curd in semolina.
  4. Also add some salt and mix.
  5. Now leave the batter to rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Now add some eno fruit salt and mix.
  7. Now heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan.
  8. And temper it with black mustard seeds.
  9. Add this on the semolina mixture.
  10. And mix it.
  11. Now heat a non-stick tawa to make the set dosa. Place 3-4 tbsp of batter on it.
  12. Spread it with a spoon in the round shape.
  13. It should be quite thick.
  14. Now spread some grated carrots and coriander on it.
  15. Apply some oil all over it(about 1 tsp).
  16. Now flip it.
  17. And press it with a spatula so that the toppings stick with it.
  18. Now flip again and cook it for 2 minutes.
  19. Serve it with coconut chutney/green chutney/sauce.
